It's been a busy week. We are halfway thru The BFG by Roald Dahl. We have discussed and analyzed character traits. We have learned lots of new vocabulary words like: ghastly, forlorn, contemptuous, colossal. The BFG also uses various words like chiddlers, scrumdidliumptious and human beans. We will continue reading next week and hope to find out more about the dreams he catches and how he handles the other giants.
We studied picture and bar graphs, introduced line graphs and line plots. The students had a great time collecting data by tasting skittles, lifesavers, tossing cards and "jumping the creek". Then they created graphs online at create a graph.com
We will finish government next week and briefly introduce our science unit the following week. In January look for us to chart the phases of the moon.
We had book buddies today with Mrs. Atcheson's first grade class. I'm so proud of our third graders. They were good role models today. The actively listened and read with enthusiasm. You can see that from some of the pictures I have attached.
Friday Folders (formerly Tuesday) were sent home. Please review, sign and send back on Monday.
Lastly we started using our Google classroom this week for ELA. Each child has a google email address and can access our classroom. It is new for me and I'm really excited about using it often for our learning.
